Our team-based approach to eye care is efficient and we strive for smooth transitions from pre-testing to the exam room to the optical gallery. We don’t take shortcuts; you’ll get plenty of time with your eye doctor and opticians. We’ll take our time to review your overall health history, evaluate all aspects of your ocular health, order and review the necessary imaging and diagnostic testing, and answer all your questions. Finally, you’ll have a blast shopping for frames with a dedicated frame stylist.
Josee Rivera
Josee helps shape the patient experience from the first phone call to the final eyewear selection. As Patient Services Director, she oversees many of the systems that keep the practice running smoothly, including front-desk coordination, patient flow, team support, and service standards across the office.
With a background in psychology, years of optical experience, and NCLE certification in contact lens fitting, she brings both technical knowledge and a strong understanding of patient needs. Josee is especially passionate about helping patients find eyewear that feels comfortable, looks great, and fits their lifestyle.
Her leadership helps ensure every visit to Helmus Optometry feels organized, welcoming, and personal.
Shakir Iqbal
Shakir leads the practice’s optical department with extensive experience, technical knowledge, and a strong commitment to patient care. With 19 years in the optical field and a family legacy spanning generations of opticians and optometrists, Shakir brings deep expertise to every part of the eyewear experience.
As Optical Director, Shakir works closely with lens labs and frame manufacturers to ensure patients have access to advanced lens technology, high-quality products, and a wide selection of frames and styles. He also provides expert guidance with frame selection, fit, adjustments, and repairs, helping patients find eyewear that is both functional and comfortable.
Shakir is fluent in English, Urdu, and Hindi, which helps him connect with the diverse range of patients and families we support at Helmus Optometry.
